A timeless expression of our estate vineyards, Overture is full bodied but approachable in its youth. This is focused and ready to drink and impresses with its rippling silk texture. The Wine Acquire Opus One Visit Our Estate Concierge Opus One Moments Overture. It has a gentle but confident tannic frame and mouthwatering lift on the finish. This is supple with clear ripe berry fruits, generous and fully ripe, tempered by white pepper spice and smoked cedar notes. Overture is a blend this year of the 2014, 20 vintages, with a dominance of 2016. (Tasted: August 24, 2021, San Francisco, CA) Pair it with lightly-spiced roast chicken. TASTING NOTES: This wine exhibits alluring aromas and flavors of savory spices and red currants. The five grape varieties (Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, Merlot and Malbec) are harvested by hand. The grapes are hand-harvested in individual. THE WINE Overture by Opus One is made in Oakville Napa Valley over a dark volcanic soil.It is made by assembling the best of different vintages, to obtain a wine of great prestige and possibility of evolution. Notes of bright cherry and red currant are underpinned by more earthy tones of ground cocoa, cedar and vanilla. Overture is Opus Ones second wine, using grapes from the densely planted estate vineyards that surround the winery. Overture displays a vibrant garnet color with expressive aromas of fresh red fruit. Yet, when these lots are afforded additional time in barrel along with the added flexibility of blending across multiple vintages, the final wine achieves a remarkable elegance and complexity. Every acre of the estate vineyard is meticulously farmed with the attention to detail and singular focus required to produce Opus One.
Both labels are made from a traditional Bordeaux-style blend of about 75 percent Cabernet Sauvignon, ten percent Petit Verdot, ten percent Merlot, and about five percent or less of Cabernet Franc and Malbec (the precise amounts of each variety vary every year). Beginning in 1993 and following in the tradition of great Bordeaux estates, Opus One created a fine second wine called Overture. Opus One produces two labels, Opus One and Overture.
